Sample Video Streaming Account Report

Below is a sample monthly report for a typical Planetcast streaming video account. Please refer to the terminology definitions at bottom of page for accurate descriptions of the report fields.

TERMINOLOGY DEFINITIONS:

File Path - The local path of your content in relationship to your home directory on our videoserver.

No. of Hits - How many requests made to the server to view that video file during the given month.

Average Buffer Time - The average time it took to buffer the video clip for each hit.

Average Packets Lost - How many packets were lost on average, per hit.

Average View Length - The total time the video clip was viewed divided by the number of hits.

USER TIP: The "Average View Length" can be longer than the "Clip Length" because of two possible reasons: 1) If someone fast-forwards or rewinds the clips or watches it again without stopping the stream. 2) If the "Clip Length" information in the file itself is wrong (the meta data is corrupt). The extra functionality of streaming technology can make it difficult to always get accurate information.

Clip Length - The server reads the "Meta" information provided by the file (determined during the encoding process). This "Meta" information tells the server what the length of the file is, the bit rate, author, copyright, clip name, etc.

USER TIP: If the "Clip Length" listed in a report is incorrect, it is likely the Meta information was corrupted either while encoding or uploading.

Bandwidth Transferred - Shows how much bandwidth was transferred for that file during the specified month.
